Going through change

I have just moved home, which has been (and while I am still settling in continues to be) the perfect opportunity to practice self check-ins and being in alignment.

It can be so easy to be carried away with the many opportunities for stress, overwhelm and exhaustion while moving, or any other big events in life. I have also felt myself drop into a mindset of blocking everything out in order to fulfil one main task (move home). For me, this meant not checking texts from friends and family, forgetting to drink water or eat proper food, being on my phone until late at night scrolling through facebook marketplace for the ‘perfect’ bedside table.

It was only when I began to set a structure for myself, spent more time nurturing all areas of my life and less on a ‘main task’ (of moving) that I began to feel much happier AND this ‘main task’ felt far more manageable.

Creating a structure (personal boundaries) for myself set the foundations for a successful & happy move for me. It was the best idea and well worth the time it took thinking about and actioning it.

If you are going through a big change or event (anything from exams or moving to a different country), here are the top guidelines to support you through:

PRIORITISE YOUR EVENING ROUTINE

  • First task is to make sure your bed is made and ready to climb into at the end of the day. (especially important if you’ve just moved into a new home)

  • Have a cut off time for work & stick to it.

  • Do something in the evening that makes you happy and/or relaxed.

MAKE IT FUN

  • Play uplifting music.

  • Use colour pens for your to-do lists.

  • Wear bright colours.

TAKE YOUR TIME

  • Plan ahead where you can. Do small things that you can do now to make life for future you easier.

  • Factor in time for breaks, food etc.

  • Set expectations - don’t expect things to be done quickly.

ASK FOR HELP

  • Most of the time, people love being asked for their help and advice.

  • Help can be as ‘simple’ as being a listening ear.

HYDRATE & EAT GOOD FOOD

  • Drink plenty of water.

  • Make sure you have access to food and snacks when needed.

The most important thing is to not lose sight of joy and what makes you happy.

Create the energy you want to be in, and you’ll attract it.
